⚠ Read before use
MeshThis converts scan file formats and applies smart decimation. It does not guarantee the accuracy, printability, or structural safety of converted files. Always verify converted files before using them in print or any safety-critical application.
General Disclaimer
The output files produced by MeshThis ("the Service") are provided for convenience purposes only. While we strive to provide accurate format conversions, we make no representations or warranties of any kind — express or implied — about the completeness, accuracy, reliability, or suitability of the Service or its outputs.
No Warranty on Output Files
Converted files are produced by automated software processes. We explicitly do not warrant that:
- Converted files are geometrically accurate representations of the original scan
- Converted files are printable without errors on any specific printer or slicer
- Converted files are manifold, watertight, or free from mesh errors
- Converted files will produce structurally sound physical objects when printed
- Smart decimation will preserve all geometric detail of the original scan
- Material properties or colour information will be preserved
Technical Limitations You Should Know
Smart Decimation
MeshThis reduces the triangle count of large scan files to fit within your chosen budget. This is a lossy process — fine surface detail may be reduced. The default 300k triangle budget is appropriate for most hobby prints. Increase the budget for higher-detail output.
Large File Limitation
Files above approximately 200MB (Pro) or 80MB (Standard) may return partial geometry or time out due to browser memory limits. WebAssembly heap size varies by browser. Chrome and Edge handle large files best.
Point Cloud vs Mesh Input
Some PLY files exported from scan apps contain only point cloud data with no face topology. MeshThis will construct a basic mesh from these points, but the result may not be watertight. For best results, export a "mesh" or "processed" file from your scan app rather than a raw point cloud.
Browser-Dependent Behaviour
Conversion results may vary between browsers due to differences in WebAssembly memory limits. We recommend Chrome or Edge on desktop for large files.
Safety-Critical Use Prohibition
DO NOT USE FILES CONVERTED BY MESHTHIS IN SAFETY-CRITICAL APPLICATIONS WITHOUT INDEPENDENT PROFESSIONAL VERIFICATION. THIS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO: STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS, MEDICAL DEVICES, AVIATION PARTS, VEHICLE COMPONENTS, PRESSURE VESSELS, LOAD-BEARING STRUCTURES, OR ANY APPLICATION WHERE FAILURE COULD RESULT IN INJURY, DEATH, OR SIGNIFICANT PROPERTY DAMAGE.
Intellectual Property Disclaimer
MeshThis does not verify the intellectual property status of files processed through the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you own the scan files you process, or have the legal right to convert and distribute them. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to scan and reproduce any object.
Third-Party Scan Apps & Slicers
MeshThis is not affiliated with Polycam, Scaniverse, RealityScan, Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura, or any other scan app or slicer manufacturer. We make no warranty that converted files will function correctly with any specific third-party application.
No Professional Advice
Nothing on meshthis.com or produced by the Service constitutes engineering, manufacturing, legal, or professional advice of any kind.
Your Responsibilities — Checklist
- Verify the geometry of converted files visually before printing
- Check the mesh health panel — open edges mean the mesh is not watertight
- Run converted files through a mesh repair tool (e.g. Meshmixer, Netfabb) for critical applications
- Confirm you have the legal right to scan and convert any object you process
- Do not use converted files in safety-critical applications without independent verification
- Test print at small scale before committing to large print runs
Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MESHTHIS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF CONVERTED FILES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: FAILED PRINTS, WASTED MATERIAL COSTS, DAMAGED PRINTERS, PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR FINANCIAL LOSSES.
